INFINIX ZERO 8 REVIEW

DESIGN

The Infinix Zero 8 has a unique looking design with the camera module having a distinct diamond-shaped arrangement and two-tone geometric pattern on the back, adds a gemstone-like theme. The device is built of plastic ( doesn’t feel cheap ) and well put together with a glossy finish that shows a lot of smudges and fingerprints.

DISPLAY

The display comes with a 90Hz refresh rate screen, a 6.85inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080P with thin bezels. There is a dual selfie punch-hole cutout camera that is well integrated into the UI with custom animations that turn the punch hole into a cool center piece.

The screen is unfortunately not as great when compared to phones with a 90Hz display. The UI look smooth when scrolling but there is noticeable smearing and the colors of the display aren’t very accurate on a bluish side. The max screen brightness is measured 450 nits.

SOFTWARE AND PERFORMANCE

The UI of the Infinix Zero 8 is the XOS 7 based on Android 10 which can be overly customized. The UI comes with a lot of Pre-installed Application and bloatware Pre-loaded for a variety of different functions but you do have the option to uninstall the majority of these apps for a faster UI experience.

A major downside of the UI is the advertisements at top of the App menu which is immediately noticeable. The XOS 7 have some proprietary features which are useful like:

  • The side panel is a convenient spot for storing some shortcuts.
  • Social Turbo ( located in settings ) upgrades WhatsApp with features like a beauty filter, stickers and custom icons, and the ability to look at messages without marking them as read.
  • A game bar that is easily accessible within a game with quick access to notification controls, screen recording, and other options as well as shortcuts to WhatsApp and a web browser.

The heart is a Mediatek Helio G90T Chipset which is able to hold it’s own in performance even due it’s not as powerful as the Snapdragon 720g. Don’t expect the chipset to be a gaming powerhouse but you can get a smooth experience out of most modern games and higher frame rates. The Zero 8 has a 128gigs built in storage plus expandable memory.

The device comes has an awesome battery life of 4500 milliamp hour. When display is set-to 90 hertz, battery consumption is at a higher volume than 60Hz. The phone comes with a 33W charger in the box and can charge from 0 to 65% in ½hr.

The Infinix Zero 8 has a capacitive fingerprint reader located at the side which is snappy and accurate. For audio, has a single bottom firing loudspeaker with an average in loudness and sound quality. There is a 3.5mm jack for connectivity with standard headphones with FM radio support.

CAMERA

infinix zero 8 review

The camera setup is a Quad setup that house:

  • 64 Megapixel main camera,
  • 8 Megapixel ultra wide cam ( autofocus ),
  • 2 Megapixel Macro Camera,
  • 2 Megapixel depth sensor.

From the back camera, the photos aren’t impressive. They are soft, bit grainy with a narrow dynamic range and the colors are not the best.

The Dual Front-facing setup is a

  • 48 Megapixel main camera,
  • 8 Megapixel Ultra-wide.

For the front camera shot, the photos are much better than the back. The photos have a lot of details and great colors & sharpness.

The Rear camera supports video recording in 4K@30FPS, it has an impressive detail-wise in contrast and the colors are dull looking plus lack of stabilization. At 1080P footage, there is electronic stabilization with more lively colors and does a decent job at smoothing things.

CONCLUSION

The Infinix Zero 8 has a unique looking design, high refresh rate display, solid performance, awesome battery life with fast charging, and a versatile camera both on the back and front.

For the price of $250, Infinix has cut-some corners especially with the display with a bloated and ad-filled software experience which isn’t great. Infinix Zero 8 isn’t available globally but available in specific markets in Africa and Asia.
