Qualcomm, Two New Processors Are Coming For The Top Of The 2023 Range

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could arrive in two versions: a base similar to the predecessor and a more powerful one. Expected at the top of the Android range in 2023.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series processors are the most used among high-end Android smartphones. There are a few exceptions, including Samsung which – in Europe – uses proprietary Exynos processors on its Galaxy S like Galaxy S22. However, the situation should change as early as this year, with the Seoul giant should adopt Snapdragon processors everywhere. Qualcomm, on the other hand, will hold the usual conference presentation of its new processor for the top-of-the-range smartphones of 2023 by the end of the year.

According to what has emerged in the last few hours, the San Diego giant could announce two versions of the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that we have found on smartphones such as Xiaomi 12, Find X5 Pro, and OnePlus 10 Pro. So, there will be two versions of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. A version that we could define as “basic” should ensure very similar performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ with a clock speed of 3.19 GHz and a more powerful and faster version with a CPU frequency that could touch the 3.4-3.5 GHz. The improvements should also touch the GPU, which is the unit that manages the graphics.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 should be made using a 4nm manufacturing process from the Chinese TMSC, which should solve the problem of overheating that has plagued the last generation and the previous one.

For those who love technical details, it seems that the new SoC features a Cortex-X3 CPU core, two Cortex-A715 CPU cores, two Cortex-A710 CPU cores, and three Cortex-A510 CPU cores. It should be equipped with the Adreno 740 GPU (which may be labeled Adreno Gen 2).

However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 should be chosen by most Android smartphone manufacturers. In addition to the next generation Galaxy S23, we should also find it on board the successors of Xiaomi 12, OPPO Find X5 Pro, OnePlus 10 Pro, and others.
