The Best SmartPhones Released in Nigeria For 2023

In 2023, Nigeria saw the release of several impressive smartphones, excluding popular global brands like Apple and Google. We’re focusing on brands that have a strong presence in Nigeria, such as Tecno, Infinix, Xiaomi, Oppo, and the newly arrived Realme. These brands have persevered in the challenging Nigerian market.

Our selections at Gadgetstripe for the best phones of 2023 are subjective, based on our experiences and opinions. Although our choices might not align with everyone’s views, we’ve had the opportunity to test various phones throughout the year and want to highlight those that stood out. The awards will cover different categories, including the best camera and battery life, but remember, these are based solely on our perspective.

The Best Phones of Nigeria For the Year 2023

Smartphones have gotten to a stage where the battery is not much of an issue anymore. What you get nowadays is crazy fast charging and it is playing a crucial role in this category. Most of the phones come with a 5000mAh battery and can practically last an entire day on a single charge.

Charging speed is the main determinant of this category and the winner is the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ it charges from zero to a hundred in 19 minutes. It supports 120-watt fast charging with a 5000mAh battery that can last an entire day. There are other notable phones like the Infinix Zero 30 and Infinix Note 30 Pro that charge from zero to a hundred in 30 minutes. They both support 68 watts of fast charging and have a 5000mAh battery.

Winner – Redmi Note 12 Pro+

Notable Mention – Infinix Zero 30 and Infinix Note 30 Pro

The Smartphone with the Best Design in Nigeria 2023 – Samsung S23 Ultra

Most phones look the same nowadays especially what we get from Infinix and Tecno. In fact, there was a pandemic of phones from Tecno and iPhone that adopted the Apple design. We even saw itel with the S23+ which had a curved AMOLED display, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and more. I also loved what Tecno gave us with the Camon 20 series devices but none of them came close to our winner.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Cases

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the best-designed phone in Nigeria for 2023. It is made with premium materials including an aluminum frame and gorilla glass Victus 2. There isn’t any phone in Nigeria that comes close in terms of design.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Notable Mention – Tecno Camon 20 Series, Itel S23+

The Best Compact SmartPhone in Nigeria 2023 – Samsung S23

Galaxy S23 Qualcomm In Europe

Every year phones keep becoming bigger and bigger and we hardly see compact phones released from the smartphone brands in Nigeria. The most compact phone in Nigeria for the year 2023 has to be the Samsung Galaxy S23. It has a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. The phone can be used with one hand comfortably because of its size. There is rarely any contender for this category.

Winnner – Samsung Galaxy S23

In terms of the best camera, we all know the clear winner as far as Smartphones in Nigeria go. We have the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra which is the best. The phone is competing with the likes of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Xiaomi 13 Ultra. On the other hand, it is too expensive and there are other budget-friendly phones launched in Nigeria like the Vivo V29 5G that are also geared toward content creators. The Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G is also a worthy contender when you consider the price and quality of the pictures you get. The Xiaomi 13T also deserves an honorable mention for its decent camera.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Notable Mentions – Xiaomi 13T, Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G, & Vivo V29 5G

The Best Gaming Phone in Nigeria 2023 – Infinix Zero 30

Many people love buying gaming phones but what is the best gaming phone released in Nigeria in 2023? Brands like ASUS and Blackmagic don’t release devices in Nigeria and in terms of gaming the only brand that cared was Infinix.

They had a couple of phones that were decent enough for gaming and they were still on a budget. The Redmi 13 Pro Plus is a notable device that can be used for gaming because of its high-end specs. For me, the winner has to be the Infinix Zero 30 and it is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 with 8 or 12GB RAM and up to 256GB Storage space. It has a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. The phone has all the right recipes to enjoy gaming on a budget.

Winner – Infinix Zero 30

Notable Mention – Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus

Best Display on a Phone Released in Nigeria – Samsung S23 Ultra

In terms of display, we don’t need to argue, everyone in the smartphone world knows Samsung puts out the best quality display on the phone. The winner was easy to pick for this one. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has the best display on any phone released in Nigeria. The gap isn’t even close and of all the phones. The S23 Ultra has a large 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 1440 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It maxes out at 1800 nits while you are outdoors. There is no other phone in Nigeria that comes close in terms of display.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Best Entry Level Phone

The entry level is where you see a lot of phones and Tecno, Infinix, Redmi, and recently Realme are all competing. The Tecno Spark 10 series was accepted in a great way and we also have the Hot 40i putting a great fight in the market. Xiaomi has the best entry-level phone of 2023 with the Redmi 13C. It is one of the best-selling phones in Nigeria for the year 2023. The reason is simple, it balances what most people are looking for in a phone. You get a large phone with a decent enough camera and performance. The base model also has up to 128GB storage space with 4GB RAM. The phone is sold for around 95,000 Naira which makes it a decent device.

Winner – Redmi 13C

Notable Mentions – Infinix Hot 40i, Tecno Spark 10

Best Value for Money Phone

This is one of the most difficult categories because phones are expensive. There are some phones out there that offer value for money but the prices are never stable which makes this category confusing. I can recommend a phone here today and tomorrow the price will be up. The Infinix Zero 30 however will surely be a value for money going by the price it launched at. The itel S23+ was also good value for the price it launched at. Right now the prices have gone up by at least 25% from the initial price at launch.

Winner – Infinix Zero 30

Notable Mention – Itel S23+

Best Flagship Phone of the Year 2023 – Samsung S23 Ultra

The best flagship phone in Nigeria for the year 2023 is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Is there a debate? I don’t think so, no other phone comes close in terms of performance, design, and overall user experience. Although it was launched in early 2023, it still stands with the iPhone 15 Pro Max in many aspects. We don’t see many flagships in Nigeria but notable mentions include the Tecno Phantom V Fold and Phantom V Flip.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Notable Mentions – Tecno Phantom V Flip, Tecno Phantom V Fold

Most Innovative Phone Brand of the Year – Tecno Mobile

This award is going to the brand that introduced phone designs and features. While Samsung has been at the center of innovation in the smartphone world, 2023 saw Tecno enter the race. They introduced their first foldable and flip phones in 2023 and the first phone in the world with a retractable lens in the Phantom X2 Pro. As far as innovation goes in the Nigerian Smartphone space, no brand did better than Tecno in my Opinion.
