Enthusiasts have been waiting for these innovations for a long time: and this is why many are happy with Samsung’s choice.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra a few days ago. In Europe, as well as in other markets, the devices arrive with Qualcomm’s latest top-of-the-range processor on board. What changes compared to the past?
In the past, Samsung has focused a lot on Exynos processors so as to mount them on their top-of-the-range. Globally though, the Galaxy S series has been launched in many different variants.
It has always arrived on the European market with the Exynos processor on board, elsewhere with that of Qualcomm. In both cases, these were true top-of-the-range chipsets without particular sacrifices.
The difference between the two solutions often concerned only energy consumption and little else. In the past, especially when the Android community was very active in terms of modding, models with Qualcomm processors were highly coveted due to the ease with which it was possible to customize the device.
For S23, Samsung has therefore put an end to the differences. For the company, this choice brings advantages from a number of points of view, including, of course, the design cost of the device itself. Replacing the processor in a device effectively means having two production lines, doubling the initial test phase, and developing two variants of the same software for each update.
Producing an Exynos processor is certainly a considerable cost for Samsung: saving from this point of view could also bring a great advantage to the company.
Has Samsung made the right choice? Many enthusiasts are happy, but only the market will be able to prove if the South Korean company is right or wrong.
