Some rumors talk about the possibility that Apple’s first foldable won’t be an iPhone. Here’s what we know as of now.
Apple seems interested in the folding sector, but not in the smartphone market. We will hardly see apple products in the short term that can challenge products such as the Galaxy Flip 4 and Fold 4.
Despite the incessant rumors that they see the possibility of the launch of a foldable iPad, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman himself has denied these rumors.
Other rumors speak of the possibility that Apple will soon develop a new MacBook complete with a folding display. Going in this direction, the device could definitively abandon the physical keyboard in favor of a 20-inch folding display. The device shouldn’t see the light before 2025.
This is a hypothesis that could confirm some previous rumors that see the MacBook test with touch screens. A MacBook with a folding display, inevitably, should integrate a touchscreen surface to allow virtual keyboard inputs and all the rest.
In any case, it is too early to make real hypotheses. A 20-inch portable Apple device could be part of both the MacBook family and the iPad family.
One aspect to analyze is the almost total absence of rumors about a foldable iPhone. Usually, Apple waits for the technologies to be really mature before proposing solutions on the market. The foldable smartphone market has been active for some time now and is slowly finding public approval. Probably, Apple believes that the technology behind the folding displays is not yet mature enough to bring a product range belonging to this category. Over time, numerous concepts of hypothetical products belonging to the iPhone and foldable line have followed. Though futuristic, they still seem impractical today.
When Apple moves in new directions, it always tries to achieve the greatest possible success: it will therefore be necessary to wait before eventually seeing a foldable made in Cupertino.
