Along with all the other stuff that’s happening in September and October. 2020 is also the year of a new release console. We got the announcement and everything, it’s only fair to talk about the New Xbox’s. We all know the pricing and availability which is actually more than we knew about the PlayStation.
The Xbox Series X price will be $499 and Series S price will be $299 both coming November 10th which is a different strategy from what Sony’s doing with the PS 5. The PlayStation price is $399 with no optical drive and $499 for the full package PS 5 and other than the drive there are no many differences between these two consoles.
Xbox Series X
A first look at the Xbox’s, you notice how ridiculously small both of them are which is sweet. Starting with the Xbox Series X, The flagship console is a matte black box which looks pretty plain which is why a lot of people would want under their TV’s than a large alien spaceship looking thing. With an everything matte black finish, theirs the slightest hint of green at the top of the hole. It would have been cool if the green pattern could light but it’s just painted.
On the debate on how the console should sit, horizontal versus vertical?
Horizontal/vertical it’s up to you. I think the way this console is meant to be oriented is vertical because it does have one giant fan at the top, so hot air rises. The fan spins and exhausts hot air at the top but whichever way it sits, it fits well under a TV.
The front has an optical drive with the eject button, the Xbox logo is the power button and down at the corner at the front is the USB port for controller charging and the controller sync button for wireless controllers. At the back, the port labeling are sideways having;
- 2 USB ports
- An Ethernet Port.
- Storage expansion port
- HDMI
With some more ventilation grille across the back.
Xbox Series S
It’s a matte white finish that looks a little more polarizing with a black circular ventilation grille. It’s is still uncertain how long the white could last whether it could get a bit yellowish or get dirty easily.
The design looks cleaner and more modern, with intended orientations which appear to be horizontal because the ventilation is coming out the top, and a teardown of the console, the CPU, and the air cooler are right underneath the ventilation so hot air rises.

There’s also plenty of ventilation on each side with plenty of holes and on the back there’s;
- An Ethernet port.
- 2 USB ports.
- HDMI.
- Expandable Storage port.
At the front, there are no optical drives. The Xbox logo is the power button and down at the corner is the USB port for controller charging and the controller sync button for wireless controllers.
PERFORMANCE AND STORAGE
Each console has a different Processor but Microsoft aim’s to deliver the same experience but at two different resolutions. The Xbox Series X will deliver 120FPS at 4k while Xbox Series S will achieve 120FPS at 1440p. Series X has 1TB of storage and Series S has 500GB of storage apart from these differences, the rest of the experience will all be identical. They both have;
- Eight core CPU
- Ray tracing
- Variable refresh rate up to 120 FPS.
Graphically, Series S needs less power to hit 1440p. With less graphical power comes to a different GPU and it also only has 10GB of ram instead of 16GB.
WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU BUY
If you can’t afford a 4K TV the Series S will be much better but if you intend to buy a 4K TV later this year or next. It will be much better to spend the extra $200 to get Series X. Basically it all depends on what you can afford at the moment.
