OPPO A93 Review: Sleek & Super Fast

The recently launched OPPO A93 is the latest device from the OPPO family and like most of the devices from the brand, it shows off the best things that OPPO has to offer across design, performance, and everything in between – This is my Oppo A93 Review.

Lightweight Feel, Sleek Design

At 164g, the A93 is a very easy-to-carry device, especially when you think about its 160mm height and 73mm width. It is portable to hold and fits very fine in the pocket without creating a bulge because it is just as thin as it is light. The shiny matte finish on the device creates the illusion of color given its ability to refract light while maintaining some fingerprint-resistance due to its coating.

I got to review the Matte Black color which has a great premium finish.

Impressive Super AMOLED Display

With a pixel density of 408pixels per inch and a 2400 x 1080px resolution, the screen does justice to colours, with very nice contrast levels and easily adjustable brightness levels that can go as high as 800nits. The 6.43” screen comes with a protective screen guard which prevents scratches without reducing any of the screen’s amazing qualities including its ability to show clear pictures even while under direct sunlight.

The phone’s selfie cameras are placed at the top left corner of the screen through a dual punch-hole that takes away just 3.7mm of display from the screen with the diameter of the cameras. The touch screen sensors are very sharp, as is evident with the in-display fingerprint which unlocks the device within 0.3 seconds of recognizing the right fingerprint.

With 4 rear cameras and 2 front selfie cameras, all AI-performance enabled and with high-resolution lenses, the OPPO A93 puts itself into a top category for mobile devices.

On the back, the 4 cameras are a 48MP main camera with an 8MP wide-angle camera and two 2MP depth cameras, all of which are arranged in a quad-cam build and can zoom in 5 times to capture rather distant objects without losing much of its quality. On the front, the cameras are a 16MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera making it a delight for selfie lovers and an efficient device for video calls.

Photography

Pictures on the OPPO A93 can be taken in a range of modes with varying settings, from the portrait mode to the night mode or panorama view, all with an AI beautification option.

The portrait mode does a great job of focusing on the key image subject, while blurring off the other bits of the picture, especially the background thereby making the subject well pronounced and within a stylish frame.

In night mode, the camera’s AI Super Night feature does a lot of magic to aid in capturing images in poorly lit environments or low light conditions. Also in portrait mode, the night capabilities of the camera come to the fore with the AI Night Flare, which combines the camera’s bokeh effect and its lowlight HDR algorithm to brighten up photos and produce clear nighttime photos.

Photos stay interesting even in the normal photo settings as the image capture combination of the rear cameras allow for very wide-angle photos with the aid of the 8MP wide-angle camera, while the two double-depth 2MP cameras combined with the 48MP main camera allow for a 5x zoom that still manages to capture tiny details.

This is mostly as a result of a hardware-software combination that optimizes photos taken on the rear 48MP camera, scaling it up to produce 108MP images. This AI feature ensures that photos are properly enlarged and can be printed in full color if need be.

Using the camera to shoot videos is just as great, as the rear cameras are able to record 4K videos with its 2160 x 30fps maximum resolution. There’s also the autofocus from the camera which ensures that recordings come out sharp. An additional spec is the ability to record videos in slo-mo, which means that the camera is able to record at higher frame rates as slo-mo videos require around 60fps and 960fps.

Optimized Battery With Charging Efficiency

The OPPO A93 comes with an 18W charger for its 4000mAh battery, which has an intelligent power-saving function that sees that the battery life is very optimized for full-day usage even with a single charge.

Turning on Super Power Saving Mode kicks in a critical battery saving mode that ensures that even with 5% of battery life remaining, the OPPO A93 still allows you to use a handful of applications.

There is also the interesting AI charging function that lets the phone pace its overnight charging to sync with the device user’s wake up time.

OPPO A93 Performance

Performance of the A93 leaves very little to be desired as the 8GB  RAM with a speed of 1866MHz, ColorOS 7.2 Android 10 operating system, and the MediaTek Helio P95 processor with speeds as high as 2.2GHz, all ensure that there is no lag navigating applications on the device even when playing heavy games like Asphalt 9 at medium settings.

This is partly due to the anti-lag algorithm from OPPO which clears data that might cause lags or errors even before they pose a threat. The memory capacity is another reason the device works very smoothly, with almost zero lags or performance issues.

For memory, 128GB of internal storage, extendable to 512GB, with a slot for a microSD card, contributes immensely to seeing the performance on the OPPO A93 running smoothly. The ColorOS 7.2 brings with it, minimalist designs, privacy functions for multi-users and a customizable dark mode feature. OPPO’s screen image management further ensures optimized content consumption when using most 3rd party apps.

There is also a built-in dark mode feature that now includes customizable times for turning the mode on or off. Given the size of the chipset too, there is reduced power consumption thus better performance and an unlikely chance of overheating from the device.

OPPO has also included an impressive range of gestures and motions. The air gesture is a feature that lets you pick up calls without touching the phone, simply wave over it. This is probably my favorite feature of the bunch.

Conclusion

Overall, I would give the OPPO A93 a 9/10. It scores top points for camera, performance, and display, with additional points for simply being an enjoyable device, the type you can regard as a utility device. It also covers its bases in storage capacity, battery, and everywhere else, and remains a great deal for its ₦125,000 price.

The OPPO A93 is currently available at any accredited store or outlet.
