Tesla has been able, over the last few years, to sustain a very sustained growth in the production of its electric cars, reaching in some cases close to doubling year over year. Estimates for 2022, despite the production difficulties encountered in the Shanghai factory in the second quarter due to the pandemic, forecast a result of well over 1 million cars produced for the company in the year.

For the fourth quarter of 2022, the last of the year, record production is expected thanks to the start of production in the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, as well as the positive impact of the one in Berlin dedicated to the European market. According to the estimate of Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research, in the last 3 months of the year, Tesla could produce up to 500,000 cars.

Tesla builds its cars in 4 different factories; the estimates for Q4 2022 foresee the following production levels in the quarter:

Freemont: 145,000 cars

Gigafactory Shanghai: 246,000 cars

Gigafactory Berlin: 60,000 cars

Gigafactory Texas (Austin): 60,000 cars

During the first quarter of 2022, Tesla delivered approximately 310,000 cars, volume reduced to 255,000 in Q2 due to production problems at the Shanghai factory. It is conceivable, due to the increased productivity in the factories in Berlin and Austin as well as improved efficiency in the Shanghai one, that Tesla could produce over 400,000 cars in Q3, then exceed the 500,000 threshold in the last 3 months of the year. If this were the case, the American company would exceed 1.5 million cars produced in 2022, a value more than 50% higher than the 935,000 produced in 2021.
