Accessible Places on Google Maps lets you know if a particular place is wheelchair accessible or not.
Google continues to integrate features to enhance its browser. Google Maps can now show accessible places, i.e. places accessible to those with mobility difficulties and who have to move around in wheelchairs or walkers or to parents with children in strollers. An extremely useful function that allows us, users, to be prepared when we arrive at different destinations.
Imagine planning to travel somewhere so you can visit a facility and then being stuck outside because maybe there isn’t an available elevator or ramp. It is the experience of the 130 million wheelchair users around the world who cannot use stairs.
The Accessible Places feature must be turned on as it is not available by default. To activate the Accessible places function, open the Google Maps application on your smartphone, starting from your profile icon at the top right. Click on Settings and select Accessibility settings.
Here, you will only have to tick the Accessible places item.
Once activated, Google Maps will show with a wheelchair icon whether places are wheelchair accessible in terms of entrances, seats, toilets, and parking when searching or viewing the place you are looking for on the map app. This was tested on a Xiaomi 12 and it works perfectly.
The information is provided by the owners of the commercial activities and by the contributions of the individual users, thus allowing those who cannot or do not want to climb the stairs to know if there are other means of accessibility to the premises in question. If you want to contribute accessibility details to Google Maps, simply find the Business Profile you want to edit, tap “About” and then “Edit Features”.
