Samsung’s new flagships have just been revealed and Samsung took to the stage on Wednesday to show off its next-gen Galaxy S lineup, consisting of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. All three models are available for preorder now. The phones’ features have been upgraded for 2022. Check out the Best Features on Samsung S22 series.
Design and Build
The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus bring a design language that is nearly identical to each phone. They have super durable Gorilla Glass Victus plus on the back and front, which is something you’ll only find on the new Galaxy phones.
The build of the S22 & S22 Plus is quite an upgrade from the S21 model which was made of plastic last year. The back panel is flat, has a glossy frame that is durable & made from armor aluminum. You have an IP68 rated water and dust resistance on both models.
The S22 and S22 Plus sport an AMOLED display with a 1080p resolution, the difference is that the S22 is 6.1 inches display while the S22 Plus is a 6.6″ display. They both have an adaptive 120hz refresh rate and when gaming mode is turned ON you get a responsive 240hz touch sampling rate.
On the S22 Plus, you can get over 1750 nits of max brightness. There’s a new display feature called vision booster – it detects your surroundings, remaps tonal parameters, and contrasts on the screen to maximize visibility even under direct sunlight.
Performance & Battery
You get stereo speakers for your audio just like last year. The chipset is an upgrade from the previous model, depending on your region you will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Chipset or an Exynos 2200 which should provide comparable high-end performance. The performance is another best feature on the Samsung S22 series.
A major difference between the two devices is the battery capacity, the S22 has 3700 milliamp-hour power and the S22 plus is 4500 milliamp hours – both models support 15-watt wireless charging & wired charging ( the S22 supports up to 25 watts wired charging while the S22 plus model can go up to 45W but neither comes with an adapter in the box).
The interface of the new series phones is One UI 4.1 on top of Android 12 compared to previous iterations, you get more customization options especially for widgets and with the new theme set up your menus and icons can be set to match the color of your wallpaper. One UI 4 has a dashboard for privacy controls.
The cameras are the same on both models. these include:
- a new 50-megapixel main camera
- a 10 megapixel telephoto with three times optical zoom and
- a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
