The Apple headset could be called Reality One and mass production could begin in early 2023.
The long-awaited Apple headset that should integrate mixed-reality functionality continues to be discussed. People have been talking about it for some time now, but now it seems to be really upon us. In reality, it was already expected by 2022 but evidently, the plans have changed. Maybe the Cupertino giant was not satisfied with the quality or perhaps it was just rumored that turned out to be unfounded.
According to the latest report published by DigiTimes, Apple could start mass production in early 2023 (with production entrusted to the Chinese manufacturer Pegatron) and then foresee a presentation event in April 2023. Apparently, however, the Initial stock of the Apple headset will be limited. The source is unbalanced by also providing numbers: between 700 and 800 thousand units produced, a decidedly lower estimate than the previous hypotheses which spoke of about 2.5 million units. The name of the viewer could be Reality One, a trademark already registered by the Cupertino giant.
As for the technical characteristics of this mysterious Bitten Apple product, we already have some details that have emerged in recent months. According to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, later confirmed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it could be a standalone device, so it won’t need an iPhone or other device to work.
This information goes in the opposite direction to what was previously stated by The Information, according to which Apple would have wanted the viewer as an accessory to be combined with an iPhone, Mac, or iPad.
This viewer should integrate a pair of processors. The first could be similar to the first M1 chip installed on Macs, the other instead would be intended for processing data from sensors.
There should then be two Micro-LED displays with 4K resolution capable of also offering virtual reality experiences. The project is ambitious, but the wait seems destined to end very soon. One thing is certain: the future is increasingly moving towards the union between real and virtual.
