Apple has taken swift action to tackle the overheating concerns of iPhone 15 Pro users by rolling out the iOS 17.0.3 update. The tech giant had acknowledged the issue earlier, promising a remedy through this software update.
In addition to addressing the overheating problem, Apple has also fortified security by patching two vulnerabilities. One of these patches deals with a kernel flaw (CVE-2023-42824), which, fortunately, requires local access to exploit. The second vulnerability, CVE-2023-5217, stemmed from libvpx, a code library by Google, and was found in WebRTC.
Apple has also pointed out that certain apps like Instagram and Uber contributed to the heat problem and assured users that they are collaborating with app developers to find solutions.
While some speculated that the new A17 Pro chip, the 3 nm manufacturing process, or the titanium frame of the iPhone 15 Pro might be behind the heat issue, Apple has refuted these claims. Even with the update, it’s normal for a fresh iPhone to run a bit warm during setup due to app downloads and background tasks.
This marks the third minor update for iOS 17 in just three weeks, with previous versions also addressing security flaws and data transfer glitches.
