Android 13: News, Release Date And Compatible Smartphones

Android 13 is the latest version of Android, available for Google Pixels and other smartphones. Here are the main news and supported smartphones.

Android 13 is the new version of the smartphone operating system developed by Google. After months of development, it is available in a stable version for Pixel smartphones and will gradually reach all other Android smartphones.

There are no huge changes compared to the previous version as Android 12 was one of the biggest updates received by the green robot system. Google, in fact, has carried out a redesign of the graphics by introducing Material You. However, there is no shortage of news.

What’s New In Android 13

Let’s start immediately with curiosity. The code name of Android 13 is Tiramisu. Big G always uses the name of a dessert to internally identify the operating system. And this time, one of the most classic Italian desserts was chosen.

Let’s summarize the news of Android 13 in 13 points, just like the version number.

  1. Thanks to Material You, it is now possible to customize third-party apps (apps not developed by Google) to match the theme and colors chosen for the smartphone background, thus making the whole graphical interface more consistent.
  2. Android 13 allows you to set different languages for each app. Until now, apps used the language chosen for the system, while now you can choose a different language. A feature that will make multilingual users happy.
  3. Android 13 has an updated media player that customizes its appearance based on the music or podcast you listen to. For example, when you listen to music, the media player highlights album art and has a play bar that dances as playback progresses. It also works for media files played through Chrome.
  4. Among the functions related to well-being, there is that relating to sleep: now it is possible to customize the sleep mode that darkens the background and activates the dark theme, thus favoring falling asleep.
  5. It is no longer necessary to give permission to access the entire media gallery to apps – you can now select the exact photos and videos that an app can access.
  6. Increased security for items copied to the clipboard: If you copy sensitive data such as your email address, phone number, or login credentials, Android will automatically clear the clipboard history after a period of time.
  7. Apps will no longer be able to send notifications without permission. In practice, you have to give the authorization to the single app at the time of installation, they will no longer be authorized by default
  8. There is Spatial Audio like on the iPhone: a technology that – if compatible headphones are used – allows you to move the sound source according to how the head is moved, giving the sensation of an audio surrounding.
  9. Using a Chromebook you can stream messaging apps directly from your smartphone so you can send and receive messages.
  10. Android 13 introduces full support for Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, a new standard that improves the audio quality transmitted using less power, therefore consuming less battery  (Android 12 offered partial support). This new feature also introduces support for multiple streams to share the same audio content simultaneously with different pairs of headsets.
  11. With Android 13 it will be possible to copy contents, such as URLs, images, text, or videos, from the smartphone and paste them onto the Android tablet and vice versa.
  12. Speaking of tablets, multitasking on the tablet has been improved. On the new taskbar, all apps are visible at a glance and you can easily drag any app to the library in split-screen mode.
  13. Android tablets know how to recognize the palm of the hand and the stylus as separate touches, thus avoiding unpleasant and annoying accidental marks that can arise, for example, if you rest your wrist on the screen while using the stylus.

Which Smartphones Support Android 13?

The fragmentation that characterizes the Android world makes it almost impossible to be able to draw up an exhaustive list of smartphones that will update. If you have a recent phone in your hands, even better if it is top of the range, the chances of it receiving Android 13 are very high. It all depends on the various manufacturers. Samsung and OnePlus, for example, have confirmed that their top-of-the-range smartphones will be updated for three years.

The first smartphones to receive the update are Google’s Pixels. Starting with the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, Android 13 is available for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4 XL. The entire Pixel 3 range is excluded.

The list of Samsung smartphones that will receive Android 13 is very long: from the top of the Galaxy S22 range to the Galaxy S20 range, all the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold folding smartphones, and many mid and low-range smartphones such as Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A52 or Galaxy A22 5G and Galaxy M33.

The list of Xiaomi smartphones that will have Android 13 is also very large: Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi Mi 11, and Xiaomi Mi 10 but also the whole range of Redmi Note and Redmi Note 10, POCO F4, and POCO F3, POCO X3, and POCO X4, POCO M4.

OPPO has released the update to Android 13 right away starting with Find X5 Pro and Find X5. It will also arrive on Find X3 Pro, Reno 8 Pro 5G, Reno7 series, Reno6 and Reno5, OPPO A96, A94 5G, A74 5G, and other budget models.

Confirmations are expected for each brand, as well as for smartphones from other brands such as OnePlus, Motorola, Realme, and ASUS. As mentioned, however, the debut on the respective top of the range seems obvious.

When Does Android 13 Come Out?

Android 13 has already been released in the final version. Pixel smartphones and some OPPO smartphones can already enjoy it, but as for smartphones from other brands, the timing is decided by individual manufacturers and it is difficult to make a prediction.
