The world’s biggest tech companies which are Google and Apple. Have joined hands in the latest fight against the novel coronavirus spread.
Just as we suggest in our previous post titled ‘ Coronavirus relevant website launched by Google’.
At the concluding part we suggest that an app or a tool be developed. To help track those infected by the covid-19. It shows less than a week our prediction is almost a reality.
Announcement released by Google and Apple.
The two tech companies announced a collaboration. In developing tools which will aid users to share data through a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) transmission. And apps authorized by health organizations.
Both Google and Apple initially plan to release the tool in May. To help track down those infected by the virus. Accompanied by a public health app.
With that on ground, the tech giants plan to develop this tool into an app for both IOS and Android users. To help feed in more people.
The companies said ‘through the help of software developers, governments, health organizations. We hope to harness the power of technology to help countries of the world slow down the spread of coronavirus. And help people return to everyday life activities’.
Google And Apple CEO’s Statement On The Latest Collaboration.
Sunday Pichai Google’s CEO released a statement on Twitter saying ‘the two companies are committed to working together on this effort’. Apple’s CEO also adds a tweet that the initiative ‘respect, transparency, and consent’.
Tool For Contact tracing.
Google and Apple’s latest initiative is to help to trace people who had contact with an already infected individual. This is originally done manually.
The app could help the speed of things, by which the already infected individual can wireless transmit alert with those they have come in contact with.
So as too take necessary measures to help slow down the spread.
Weakness From The Development.
While the initiative sound well, there is still a setback. In crowded areas with it may flag individuals in an adjacent room who are not necessarily sharing space with the user.
Which in turn makes people worry unnecessarily. It would probably not show how long someone has been exposed to the virus.
Also in cases like Africa where their low network connectivity the app might look ineffective.
Conclusion
Well Google and Apple’s latest toys might be great or not but time will tell. It’s a new program so the masses will have to wait for it to undergo it’s testing period and see if it will be as effective as ever.
A nice work from both tech giants it shows technology is really doing its part in the fight against the covid-19 fight.
