8 One UI Settings You Should Change
Temporarily Mute Setting
If you often put your phone on silent and forget to put it back on ringer & vibrate which results in missing a lot of important calls and notifications. Generally, we use the volume button to mute and put it on vibrate calls or use One UI a quick setting toggle for this but there’s another very interesting option called temporary mute which allows you to set how long your notifications and calls will be mute.
How to Activate:
- Open the “Quick Toggle Settings” by swiping down from the top of your screen.
- Press the sound text in the toggles to expand the sound toggle & get more options.
- Click on “Mute”, immediately you see the temporarily mute below.
- Turn On the temporarily mute, click on “details” to get more options.
- Click on “Mute for” to set the mute for 1hr, 2hrs, 3hrs, or even set a custom time.
With the temporarily mute activated, the phone will automatically go back to the ringer after an hour or whatever time you have set.
Using 120HZ in Power Saving Mode
Using your phone casually, and you don’t want the phone’s battery to drain a lot so turning on the power saving mode will limit CPU speed but also changes the screen refresh rate from Adaptive to standard mode but there is a way to use the 120-hertz adaptive refresh rate with the power saving mode turned on.
Here are the steps:
- Go to “Settings”.
- Click on “Display”.
- Go to the “Motion Smoothness Settings” on display.
- Select “Adaptive” but don’t hit apply yet.
- Open the “Quick Toggle Settings” by swiping down from the top of your screen then press & hold on to the power saving mode toggle in quick settings.
- Turn on the power-saving mode.
- Go back to the motion smoothness settings. You will see the adaptive is not supported & it’s grayed out but it is selected. You can hit apply and your display starts using the 120-hertz mode with power saving mode turned on.

Bixby is one feature in One UI that absolutely nobody uses, Double clicking the power button in Samsung phones can be used to activate Bixby. One UI has an option in the settings called side key (settings=>Advanced features=> side key) which lets you switch the power key shortcut to open up any app, the camera, or Bixby but there’s no way to set it to Google assistant.
Here are the steps:

- Select the Bixby button assistant remapper app. Now double click on the power button to open up Google assistant.
Disable Marketing/ Spam Notification
As a Samsung user, you must have noticed the marketing notification or spam notification you get from Samsung pre-installed apps which you never used before. There is a way you can disable these marketing notifications in One UI settings:
- Go to “Settings”.
- Click on “Privacy” and turn off received marketing information.
If you have a brand-new Samsung or you eventually did a factory reset, there are a few things you need to set up to disable spam notifications while setting up the phone.
Firstly, on the “Check Out Some info to get started” page. Tick the “End User License Agreement & Privacy Policy” only then Next. Another hidden setting while setting up is the “Get access to exclusive Samsung services” Page at the very end it says “By tapping done, I agree to……” click on it and unticks all of the options.
Customize the Share Panel
The default share panel in One UI is filled with all the apps but you can choose what apps you want to see in the share panel. Here are the steps:
- Download & install Good lock from the Galaxy store.
- Install the home-up module.
- In the home up the module, there is a share manager option where you can select apps you want to see in the share panel.
Increase Fingerprint Scanners Responses
Samsung phones aren’t necessarily the fastest when it comes to On-Screen Fingerprint (in some cases), there are some tips and tricks to speed things up but there is one option in One UI settings that works well.
- Go to settings.
- Click the search icon, search for “optimized battery usage”.
- Click on “optimized battery usage”, this page shows you all the apps whose battery usage is being optimized.
- Tap on “Apps not optimized” and select all to show all the apps. Now click on the search icon & search for “com.samsung.android.biometrics” and as you can see battery optimization is turned on for this. Disable it and you should get a slightly faster response when it comes to the fingerprint scanner.
Auto-record Calls
With One UI comes a call recorder built-in but you can record during a call by a tap on the menu button and hit record call to just starting the recorder. There is a hidden feature in the call setting for Auto record & also an option to set the phone number to record either record call from All numbers/record calls from unknown numbers/ record calls from only specific numbers or contact.
- Go to call logs or Phone.
- Click the “Menu Options” then “Settings”.
- Tap on “Recording Calls”.
- Click on “Auto Recording” and Turn it On.
Sleeping Apps
There are some settings that come with One UI by default while setting up a Samsung phone and this is one “unused app will be put to sleep to extend battery life…..” while this option increases performance by killing all apps in the background. This feature is enabled by default but can be disable/controlled in the setting to avoid close your important app in the background.
To disable this:
- Go to setting.
- Go to device care.
- Click on battery.
- Tap on the option called “App power management”. Here you can just disable the “Put unused apps to sleep” option.
In the App power management options, you can manually select apps that you don’t use that much and add them to sleeping apps/even deep sleeping apps/ you can even select the apps that you don’t want to sleep ever.
